The Bannisdale Horseshoe 9th January 2011

January 10, 2011

Whiteside Pike, Todd Fell, Capperbarrow, Ancrow Brow, Bannisdale Fell, White Howe, Lamp Pasture.

This was our fourth outing of the year and we were hoping that it would be a good day. Roger had been saving this walk for a cold day as it has a lot of boggy patches. We were hoping that it would be frozen enough to walk over with out sinking in. There had been a little snow over night but by morning it had been raining a little. The road that we intended driving up to access the beginning of the walk was sheet ice, all was saved as we headed up the A6 a little way and walked along a track to pick up the beginning of the horseshoe.

It was a long isolated walk over eight tops, the ground was frozen beautifully so the going was not too bad. At the head of the valley we got a lovely view down the valley. After a bit of rainy sleet the sun game out and light was wonderful. We were out for 6 hours in total.
