Trip up Cairngorm
Cairn Gorm 1244m
Looking across to Stob Coire an t-Sneachda and Cairn Lochan
Still testing the newly mended ankle so this trip up Cairn Gorm has been a bit of a target for a while. We parked at the lowers ski car park and got seriously midges and I had forgotten my insoles for my boots so we high tailed it back home to pick up midge repellent and my insoles! We set of up the ridge at the side of Coire na Ciste. Strange looking down on the ski tows in the summer. As we approached the top of the ridge we saw some deer and we were surprised when they didn’t run away but walked towards us – they were reindeer and very tame! we arrived at Cnap Coire na Spreidhe in the mist ( or so we thought) and took a bearing to take us to the top of Cairn Gorm but as we walked it felt wrong but we stuck to the bearing and came across the top of the ski tow. We had dropped down too far and this was because we were not actually at the top of Cnap Coire na Spreidhe but a cairn just below it ….interesting. We continued on to the summit of Cairngorm and then retraced our steps but returned down Strona Cha no looking down into Strath Nethy and getting a bit wet in the rain!
