Bike and Hike to Carn Chuinneag

I realised when I was parked up in my van that his was my first solo over night trip away in the van that was for fun and adventure. I have had many adventure trips with friends and family and many solo trips for work or hospital visits. So this was a first and I was very pleased that i enjoyed it so much. It has been a bit of a hard time since the end of September getting the van ready to action. new cam belt, brakes, battery x2 fixing the heater and the tow bar.

I have been working hard to get my mountain fitness back and after Joes recent visit where we had three very good mountain days I felt ready and in mind and body. There was a two day weather window, Monday and Tuesday unfortunately I had to collect work from the Iona Gallery on Monday morning so it was after lunch before I left. The weather was better to the North so I headed up that way. I arrived at the beginning of tomorrows walk just as it was getting dark. imaps did not let me down the parking spot was more than suitable. I spent a cosy evening writing Xmas cards having tea and listening to my audio book. I set the alarm of 7am with the aim of making a start at about 8am. In the event it was 8.15 not bad!! The track up to the start of the walk was lovely not too steep just a steady climb through woods and along a very pretty burn with water falls. The walk set off up one of the most brilliant stalkers path that zig zagged up the hill and then traversed a bit before I broke off up the hillside over a small boulder field to the first summit. Views were incredible, the wind got up as I was out of the lee of the hill. It was cold…onward to the next summit which was the actual Corbet. another little top on the way down and then after a rocky decent I stuck across a boggy patch to pick up a track back to my bike.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this trip. solo in the van for fun…the first of many many more…
