A fantastic last day of joe’s holiday, we had intended to go up and west but over night snow made us think we should stay closer to home. We did a circular route the opposite way round to the one we did a couple of years ago. There was very little wind. The roads were quite icy and we hadn’t got our winter tyres on the van. We finished the night with a Thai curry feast.

The weather looked ok again possibly a bit windy but we decided to stretch ourselves with a bigger walk – not too big…the days were short still but then Joe had his new head torch!! We drove up a long rough track to a parking place, then a long lovely walk up the glen followed on our left were the peaks we intended to climb, on our right were higher munros of the grey corries. The mist never really cleared so we didn’t see them much. Also when we got to the top we would have seen the munros that we all climbed when we had a holiday house in Fersit
We totally enjoyed it…so good to be out walking in the hills I feel my obsession returning…yippee

Today we thought the weather would be ok for something slightly higher, in the event the day turned out lovely and we were treated to fantastic views of of the nearby munros. We couldn’t park where we intended as the ground was too sodden so we went back along the road to an alternative start. It was steep and hard going through deep heather and bog. but was worth it! There was two other people walking on the hill but neither went along to the second top. We got back to the van just as the light was fading. The last bit down we found a little path that was most welcome.

Today was our first big walk of Joe’s visit, It was a bit claggy on the top but we hoped it would clear….it didn’t so we missed the wonderful views! A few years ago Roger and I walked a huge horseshoe around the munros that we couldn’t see!!! It was the walk that totally knackered my heel. I always thought it was nearer to Laggan but i had noted it in the munros book. I checked when I got home. I was a great walk, the initial track would make a good mountain bike route. We saw two white hares

The car was in for the MOT so we couldn’t go far. It was Joes first day so we wanted a little leg stretcher. We walked up High Burnside to the waterfall then climbed over the deer fence and made a direct line over some heather and rocks eventually picked up the path up Craigellachie and then went up to the stop. My phone wouldn’t load peak hunter, sob sob!! We returned via the new path back to High Burnside past the little bouldering crag. Somewhere to visit in the sping…it was a bit wet today. It was my 10th visit to the top.

Today was due to be an ok day but maybe a bit windy. In the event it turned out to be a much better day than the forecast said. A lovely solo walk, looking across at the Fara where Roger and I walked nearly 10 years ago. I am enjoying walking solo and glad to be getting my mountain legs back.

Looking towards the ford that Roger and i crossed the time we walked up the Fara

Meall nan Eagan in sight
Meall nan Eagan in front but a lovely pointy hill in the distance. which doesn’t have a name
Looking towards Dirc Mhor, which Roger and I came down after climbing the Fara

The photo shoot ended up a bit of a disaster as I took some great photos but had some muck on my lens and didn’t notice. It was the first time I have managed to get out after all the trouble with my van…..what pain!!!
After taking photos at Auchlochan I walked up Knock of Braemoray which is a Sub 2,000 peak. I keaded straight up the steep side knee deep in heather! very hard work. half way up I got a call from Kenny to come and help him stack his wood. So after a route march to the top I found a little path all the way back to the road – much easier! but then i walk along the road to the car. Great veiws from the top.
Shame about the muck on my lens…..argh!!!!!

Continuing the car sharing debarcle as a result of the work needed on the van i headed out to Ballater with Kenny so he could work and i could take my samples to show his boss. I also took my bike so i could go for a ride while Kenny was working. The sales pitch was a success and i left my cards in the display stand and block prints to be hung. I will make up the jewellery for kenny to take another day.
My ride was ace it was cold but sunny as I rode up Glen Muick. Roger and i had visited in the van a few years ago and walked up a Corbett called Conachraig 865m I took the gravel bike….still dreaming of the next model up! I do enjoy a solo ride these days.
When i got back to the Milk Hoose I had sold 5 cards.

A Solo Day Out
Melmerby Fell 709m (h)
Distance: 9.97km Elevation: 503m Time 2hrs 28mins (3hrs 32mins)
Joe was working so I had a day out on my tod. The weather had a little window so I decided to head up Melmerby Fell. It was the next top north of Cross Fell where Joe and I broke our Lockdown together. I walked up the track from Melmerby and took in a contour round to Cuns Fell before heading up to Melmerby Fell and then Knapside Hill which is where I had my dinner. A lovely day got back down in time to go to get something for tea and have a shower before joe got home from work. Tomorrow it rains and I go home.

It was a very poor forecast, windy and very low cloud, so joe and I decided to tick off a couple of small hills that I wanted to climb. The Day turned out drier that we expected and we got up Binsey with out getting to wet. it was a simple up and down walk. Back to the car we drove to Great Mell Fell, which proved to be more of a walk, we walked round the bottom, then up over the top and down a steep slope on the other side. there was no path for a while and it was very wet under foot. Then a very very muddy path and rain.
A great day out only 6 wainwrights left for me to do
