It was our last day and our legs were getting tired as we have done a lot of walking this week. But even so we set off from Anne’s. Caught a bus for one stop. It could have been two and set of walking up to the village of Charoussie we were going to try to get up Prarion but decided it was a bit much so we went up to the Col de la forclaz and then down to seroix to get the train back. It was a good choice as the train journey was really interesting and included a viaduct and gorge. There was a bit in the middle where we walked on a new track but apart from that the paths were lovely.

Today the clouds were higher and broken so we thought that it would be a good day for a walk up to the glacier. It was a pretty amazing experience to be so near that we could hear it creaking and rumbling. We have had such an amazing week. We spent a lot of time sat in the sun watching it.

We got up intending to go to walk up to the glacier at Les Bossons but the cloud was down very low so eventually decided to go for a wander up to Le Bettey which was can see from Anne’s apartment. It was a make it up as you go kinda walk. The cloud lifted we stopped at two picnic places and had our lunch. Finally took in the statue of Christ Roi on the way down. A most excellent day finished of with a wild mushroom risotto. not the mushrooms in the photos but the ones from the market 😂

Today was a rest day! Our legs were tired from the big walk down yesterday so we decided a train ride up the valley to Le Buet and then a wander up to the cascade de benard. There was works on the train so we had to transfer to a bus at Chamonix which was ok but a bit disappointing as I was quite settled on the train! It was very quiet at Le buet but we had a nice little walk up to the falls and an explore of a cave. There was no where to eat open so we waited for the bus back and got off at Argentiere. Where we had a nice lunch and then decided to have another walk along the petit Balcon Sud to les Tines where we caught the bus back to Chamonix and then the train. There were amazing views of the glaciers.

Today we decided on something a little more adventurous. We got the cable cars up to the Aiguille de midi had a good look round and an early lunch.
Next we returned toe plan de aiguille and walked along to the mer de glacé. We knew the train wasn’t running and we would have to walk all the way down. We had been warned that it was a long way. It was!
But a great day all round.

And another go at imc photography

A wander from Les Houches
D: 11.40km. T: 3hrs 4mins (4hrs 7mins) E: 367m
It was our first day at Anne’s apartment in Les Houches, after a long lie in we went to the tourist office to get our guest passes, then back to the dogs to have first lunch.
Our walk was a fairly short one but we needed to get to the start which took a bit more doing than we might have first thought. Eventually we got on track and it was a lovely walk with views through the trees of all the big mountains around us. We walked through the very pretty hamlet of Charousse
I have started playing with IMC photography, here are a couple from today

Before we got back to the apartment we stopped at the bar for a beer. Very nice it was too but a little strong…..shouldn’t have had another. Ha ha

I hadn’t been out with the mountain club for ages but I was free this Sunday for the celebration hill.
Joe and I went up this hill a couple of years ago there was so much mist we didn’t see anything at all. Today was better but only just. It was really interesting though seeing where we had been. First hill for a month! A nice meal afterwards at Bob and Hilary’s. Tomorrow I head for Haddington and Chamonix

After joe left Peggy for the train home we headed up to Linne marina. As expected we vastly under estimated the amount of work needed to empty and sort her ready to be taken out the water for the winter. But we did have the most amazing meal out at the fish restaurant I have always wanted to go to…..roll on next year
