With the weather set fair in the West Anne and I couldn’t resist a wee adventure. It took a bit of deciding but we settled on a walk up this hill on the way to a bothy over nighter tomorrow. It was hot hot and there were lots of flies but once at the top we had amazing views of Beinn Dearg and An Teallach. Also the hills we went up on joes birthday a couple of years ago as we were coming out of lockdown. Good to be feeling back to fitness after my bad cold.

This is a catch up post. Anne was asking me about this hill ( it is now July 2025) and I saw I had not written it up. I remember I was on my way to a photo shoot and then was planning to meet up with the ladies at Ronnan but I was getting over a bit of a horrible summer cold and hadn’t walked for a while. It was very hot and I found it very hard work. I completed the photo shoot but never made it to the meet.

This is a catch up post I am writting in February 2026 as i want this blog to be as complete as it can be….but i do find i have rather a lot of missed blogs! It was my second visit to Rum, the first was in 2016 with Peter and Jo anne. Peter and i rode across the island to the far side Peter on Roger bike. This time the weather was wild for our first day. I was walking with Anne Marie, it was very windy and a tad wet.

Joe and I were both feeling a bit tired. Joe has been over working and I am still recovering from Skye and knoydart shenanigans. So we thought a little bit of lunch in Ambleside followed by a bit of climbing gear shopping. Joe replaced a fair bit of his ancient rack. Then we headed on a little adventure walking up The tongue, although it did start by going down 🤦♀️😭. We passed a wonderful old stone bridge on the way back. Then home via Morrisons for a nice tea of mixed salads. Looking forward to testing joes climbing gear on Sunday, fingers crossed it is dry.

After a great day yesterday the weather was due to be wet today and it was! Some folk went out to Rasaay but I thought 8 would save myself for tomorrow as the better weather was due to come back. In the event the weather lifted and Anne Marie and I went with Jeanie to Neist to climb. There was a vs she wanted to do. Anne Marie and I seconded. I thought it would be interesting to second a vs just to remember what it was like. It was ok. The mist came back just as I got to the top.
Second time lucky on Cruban Beag

It was a good chance to catch up with Dot before Anne Marie and I head up to skye and then I will be away in the van for maybe a month. Joe and I went up this hill a couple of years ago, it was misty and damp. We came up from the other side. This route was much different. Longer and I think we saw more of the character of the mountain. A nice wee hill. There were lots of cairns.

Oh my god. The ride is was lovely as the wind was to my back but I kept thinking this is going to be hard on the way back and it was very very hard. The wind got windier and Anne was on her e-bike. Never again 😆

A short walk on the way home from Durness. My knee was a little sore so didn’t want to push it before our planned trip to Skye. As it was the weather was a bit claggy and wet. So a good choice. The grahams are getting a bit ahead of the Corbetts though so need to get my Corbett finger out.
An easy Sunday – not really!

Today was supposed to be an easier day after yesterday but it didn’t feel like it! All the ladies went out together which was nice. A couple of lovely little hills for a not so promising weather day, as it was we got back to the hostel just in time before the rain came on. A good last day and a nice evening with a communal meal.
