I have never been so cold! I am not sure why we thought it was a good idea to cycle up the hill to the ski centre on our road bikes but it was fun until we came out of the cafe after a coffee and cake to a blizzard! I have never been so cold! except that time in the alps skiing! but it was –22 then

We went up the train down the traverse, the 105 and gun barrel. Up the Coire Cas T bar, down the Cas and Zig Zags and the Car Park Tow.

Dungeon Ghyll and Thorn Crag

Scramble: Dungeon Ghyll – lower ravine, Grade 1* – last done 17th February 1995
I wasn’t sure a Ghyll scramble was the best choice after all the rain but it was ok but very greasy in the Ghyll. We used a rope to cross the boulder bridge over the ravine. after we climbed out of the ghyll we headed up Thorn Crag via a nice little scrambly bit. Headed home to open our Christmas presents and have a nice tea with Kai, Blair and Joe

Scramble up Long Crag Buttress grade 1**
I thought that we had gone up long Crag Buttress Scramble before and when I got home I checked and we did in do it in June 1997.
After the scramble which was very enjoyable we spent some time hunting out the tops of High Wythow, Long crag and Kitty crag. We then headed to Wetherlam. It was pretty windy at this point but it did drop later. I cant really remember going to Wetherlan before but the view from the top were superb. There was a bit of snow at the top. After going over Black Sails we dropped down to Swirl Hawse and Levers Water and back down to the start.

It has been years since we went to Kendal Climbing wall and my had it changed and how quickly did our arms get knackered! But must go again soon or head to Glenmore Lodge when we are home….Kai enjoyed it too…
A Claggy walk in the West

We set of from Kendal and the day was looking promising bit of blue sky appearing which was very welcome after all the dull windy weather we have been having. But as we got further round to the west side of the lakes it got more and more misty. So as it happened we spent 6 hours walking in the mist following fences!
We even managed to miss one of the tops cus we hadn’t marked to go to it on the map. We did begin to run out of light and as it was the first time I have worn my big boots my ankle was getting a bit sore.

A visit to Jenny Tempest’s seat
Day one of our post Christmas visit to Kendal we went to Settle and a walk up to Jenny Tempest’s seat and then on to the top of Castleberg. But first we had a coffee and sandwich at the Naked Man.
My Birthday
Roger was at work on my birthday so I decided to go round the course for fun!
A Christmas walk up Craigellachie

We expected a wet walk but as it was it wasn’t so bad. I have wanted to go up Craigellachie ever since we moved up here and now we have! As expected fantastic views of Aviemore and the Cairngorms. The ridge is longer than we thought with good views down the other side to Loch Alvie. It was an interesting spur down to the village – interesting. Then back home to cook the Christmas dinner…lovely day
