Lovely sunny day, we set out to climb Giants Crawl Dif, it was very busy but we were not in a queue for the climb although others were waiting for eliminate A. We thought it would have been quieter as it was a Friday but it was half term and good weather
Three Peaks Reccy: Part two – Wernside
A bit of a dull day weather wise, we left a bike in a lay by on the Ingleton Road and then parked where we left the bike the other day. We retraced our steps a little to pick up foot paths that cut across the fields thus avoiding any road walking – much better by far. Pretty windy on the top.

Three Peaks Reccy – Pen y Ghent
Our first Reccy for our three peaks attempt later in the year. We had a cuppa and bacon butty at the cafe and headed up Pen y Ghent. It was very very windy at the top. Also lots of rubbish in fact by the time we got back down we had loads of banana skins and plastic bottles. At the top we headed down the path and it got quite boggy and then we had a interesting river crossing we trekked up stream and eventually crossed by thing that are there to stop the sheep. It then got very very boggy. Having looked at the maps when we got home we decided on an alternative route to try out on Monday.

Fiacaill Ridge 30th April 2011
Fiacaill Ridge – grade 2 Scramble Cairn Lochan 1219m
We parked at the Ski car park and headed up the path pass the ski tows and towards Coire am t sneachda. this turned out to be a happy mistake as once we got to the corrie we realised that we should have headed up toward the ridge to the west. But after having a good look at the crags we headed diagonally back to a small out crop that we noticed when we were here last winter. It turned out to be a very interesting way on to the ridge an obviously well used in winter – crampon marks. It was quite blustery but we headed up the ridge to the main scramble. It was brilliant such grippy rock. Once on the top we headed to the summit of Cairn Lochan and then down Fiacaill Coire Chais, although we dropped down to the ski area and made our way back to the car.Both our ankles stood up well!!

29th April 2011 Ryvoan and Slugan Passes
A nice Ride Firstly over Slugan pass to Glenmore where we had tea and scone’s then up and over Ryvoan Pass. We deviated to see if Bynack Stablewas there but although the track was ridable all the way to it’s spot. however there was only a rectangle of lighter coloured grass to mark it’s spot. We spent some time looking up Strath Nethy and thinking what a long strath it is and how we were glad that we decided to take the other route. We could make out Bynack More and Bynack Begg at the head of the valley. WE made another deviation on the way back to see if a shelter was still standing but it wasn’t!!

Beinn A Chlachair 27th April 2011
Beinn a Chlarchair 1087m
Distance: 36.35 km Time: 1hr 7mins Av Sp: 10.87 Max Sp: 32.53km/h
We set off on our bikes and rode up to the Lochan. We left the bikes and set of on foot up the old drovers path and then headed up the west ridge of Beinn a Chlachair. The final push up to the summit was very flat rocky and loose. As we headed back down Roger’s ankle started playing up and after descending the steep rocky ridge down to the col and the drovers path we decided to miss the other two peaks and head back.poor Roger limping a bit. It was good to get back to the bikes and sail down to the car. Nest time we think it would be good to go the other way round and down the west ridge of Beinn a Chlachair.

Bynack More and Cairn Gorm 25th April 2011
Bynack More 1090m Cairn Gorm 1245m
We parked at the Coire na Ciste car park after leaving a bike at the top car park and driving back down, We then set of over the heather to the ridge to the east which took us over to Strath Nethy. We dropped down and passing a little locjan and fording the Nethy and headed up to Bynack Begg and then on to Bynack More. Wonderful views opened up of the Cairngorm mountains – one day we will be able to name them all! we looked down to Loch Avon. We dropped down and headed up to Cairn Gorm. It was a bit of a shock to see people and all the Cairns going down to the funicular. We got a ticket and caught the the last one down! Roger headed down for the car. A brilliant day.
