nearly a three tea shop day, actually it was a tea wagon in Skipton, Ice Cream Cart at Botlon Abbey and a tea shop in Grassington. A great day but the roads were a bit busy.

Simply the best day of the year! We were out 8 hours and our legs and my heal stood up very well. We met quite a few people – it was a Saturday and they had mostly come up the ridge of Sron a’ Ghoire or Carn Laith which was our decent. We thought that our route the best as the other ways very very heathery and tussocky!

Raeburn’s Gully – grade1 *** – with just a line of snow in it.- very sugary we thing as there was water running down the cliffs on the right. Easy gully hidden behind the central spur.

Beinn a’Chaorainn 1049m Beinn Teallach 915m
The forecast was for sunny spells and dry but we think that we went too far west and it was raining but as it was an improving forecast we set off. It was very windy and I only just managed to snatch a couple of pics. We did nearly go the wrong way as we had circles round a little and approached the first summit in the mist from a slightly different direction than we expected. We soon sorted that out and headed along the ridge before dropping down to the Bealach. We were thinking of heading back down the glen but the wind dropped and we continued over Beinn Teallach. We had a cold river crossing at the end!

Creag a’ Chalamain and Castle Hill: 5th April
After getting my new sticks we headed up to Loch Morlich to start our walk. the days was dry and not quiet as windy as it had been. Firstly we went through forest tracks and watched a toad crossing the road – lovely! Then we headed through the ancient woodland up the glen towards Lairig Ghur – this was not a track that could be cycled. We turned left and headed up the steep side of the mountain to cut a corner and pick up a small path which led to a stony top – we found a great hidey hole to shelter from the wind and have a coffee. It was nice to see the big mountain around us. the next top was a much more rounded affair. We then headed down into the forest to make our way by very circular route.

A very short walk but a lovely glen and the sun came out, we saw a stoat and I forgot the memory card in my camera. but I took one on on the camera memory but I havent worked out how to get it off yet!
Rainbow Walk 3rd April 2011
We parked at the Bridge of Brown and headed off up the glen passed a couple of derelict old farmsteads, back at the burn we found a place to cross and continued up the glen for a bit before branching off left up the flank of Carn na Farraida. At this point it started to rain, sleet and hail. the ground was a bit boggy and heathery but we got to the top of the rounded ridge and headed to the summit. The summit cairn was the smallest that i have ever seen but didn’t take a photograph as it was a bit inclement. We headed sown the other side to pick up a forest road that eventually lead back to the car. I didn’t know til I got back to caravan but I left my sticks behind leaning up against a fence. We did see lots of rainbows

The day of the big big climb!!!!

As usual we started at pretty much the highest point – getting a bit of a habit! After I fell of my bike very slowly and gracefully we went down the hill to Stainforth and then into Settle, should we have a bit of something here or wait until Malham……wait until Malham. We managed the hill to quote Roger it was alright!
We had a nice bit of cake and coffee in Malham and then headed up out of Malham…the wind started up a bit and it was in our faces which made it a little hard work. then I got a puncture….a very dramatic one that hissed! After we mended it we carried on up hill through Littondale. Then chips in Settle.
A Circuit from Shap via Appleby 18th March 2011

Well I am really getting into these rides we have done 8 in the last 3 weeks and I think that they are really doing us good and getting us fit. It was frosty still when we set off as usual at the top of a hill! We stopped to have a look at a small stone circle and headed down to Shap. We had a coffee and Tea Cake. It was just great sunny and quiet lanes. a smashing lunch in Appleby and back to the car – up hill but not so bad! – good training!
Tour of Skiddaw: 16th March 2011

As usual we started pretty high up on the route so set off going down hill1 which is great but you know that you are taking your pleasure before your pain! what wonderful villages we went through. It was a lovely sunny day – we are really picking the good weather today. We had a welcome bacon buttie and pot of tea at about the Old Saw Mill about the half way point. It was very welcome as was the log fire as I was a bit chilly.
After a bit of a rest we headed to Keswick we by passed the A66 by riding along the old railway which was a cycle and foot path although not being metalled was a bit rough on our racing bikes. After that we followed more wonderful very quiet lanes and through a ford to the start.
