Just having a brilliant time skiing. Not all runs open as so much snow.
Cairngorm Mountain 1st March 2010
Amazing snow and skiing. We arrived at about 10am and got our selves sorted out. the road to the ski centre was open but the link road was shut. The snow on the sides of the road was way above the top of the car. The funicular was still well buried under snow but they were trying to dig it out. The tows up to the top station were not running as there was a risk of avalanche n the traverse. We headed for the Faicaill ridge poma and went down the run back to the tow. It was a bit icy so next time we went the other way. All in all a brilliant day. the Corie cas t bar was also open. We also had great fun on the day lodge poma – although it was a bit fierce – Roger fell off first go.

Not being able to set off on the Thursday due to snow We arrived at Kai’s on Friday lunch time and thought that the A9 would not open til the following day, spent some time with ki, Blair and jJoe at their new flat. they opened the road mid afternoon so we headed up. Not knowing what the conditions were going to be. In fact the road was not to bad and We arrived at the caravan to find snow above my knees…luckily it was soft and newly fallen. Mind you it was after 8pm before roger had dug out enough snow to get the car into our space next to the caravan.
There was no skiing the next day as it was quite windy and Cairngorm mountain was closed. they were having a massive dig to get the car park clear and the road open
Tarn and Falcon Crags 20th February 2010
It was a fairly cold night and still -3.5 when we got into the car, as there had possibly been quite a bit of snow in the week we thought that we would see what condition the gills are in. We parked at Dunmail Raise and headed to Birkside Gill. It was frozen but no where near enough to climb. We carried on up the gill for a bit and then headed up to the ridge and Willies Wife’s Moor. We traversed round above Grisedale Tarn heading to Tarn and Falcon Crags. There was frozen snow and ice on the ground covered by a fresh powder snow. There were a couple of parties in number 1 gully so we headed for number 2 gully (grade 1). It was great – a bit trampled but nice and solid under the powder snow. We descended the same way hoping to have a look at number one gully but the two parties were still at it. So we started up number 3 gully (grade 1) towards the top there was some interesting ice which was in fact quite steep and interesting. The top became very interesting as the snow became sugary. We desended number 2 gully and as the two parties were now off the first pitch we had a go at number 1 gully. It had a small ice pitch which had lost most of its ice.

Brown Cove Crag 14th February 2010
It snowed on the way up, the ground was frozen. Cracking frozen snow and Ice. Snow turned to Drizzle later in the day. We started to make our way up Central Gully. Then disaster struck half way up – Roger’s Crampon broke so further adventures on the crag were scuppered. Very icy on the way down.
Great End 8th February 2010
Another great day, a Monday so not too busy but still a few other climbers on the crag. Very claggy – poor visablity -when we got there so not having been there before we didn’t really know what was where. We headed to the eastern side of the Crag, found some icy bits and frozen snow. Also found foot steps coming down and thinking it might be climbers using Cust’s gully as a decent we followed them. It cleared as we got near to the top and we were treated to a brilliant view of Great gable and Green Gable. From the top we were able to identify the top of the two gullies which were actually Cust’s gully and Branch Gully. So of course we went back down and climbed up Cust’s gully.
The snow was frozen and firm but trampled. A excellent day.

A fine day skiing, powder snow – wonderful although a bit windy at the top – we had to go and buy goggles so we could open our eyes. skiing all the way down to about 5 meters from the car!
Corrie-an-t-Sneachda 30th January 2010
Lots of snow and lots of people, reasonably cold, bit of a breeze. we climbed up the goat track which got interesting at the top. Solid firm ice/snow. Went a bit out of our way at the top as it was a complete white out and didn’t turn North in time to go down the ridge. We were put right by Andy Nesbet!
Hen Crag Wetherlam 21st January 2010
Today we went up our first grade 1 climb. South South gully. the snow was much firmer than it has been. there was a unstable cornice at the top of South gully and avalanche debris at the bottom. Two people went up but we didn’t think we would have done.
Red Tarn Cove Patterdale 17th January 2010
Well, today we set off to go to Hawswater but the road was well to icy so we had to turn back and go to Rheghed for a coffee and come up with plan B. Plan B was to head to Patterdale and go to Red Tarn Cove. It was very Claggy, with very deep soft snow. We couldn’t really see the crag.
