Pen y Ghent Reccy Number Two

October 3, 2013

A much duller day to day as we wandered into the clag as we walked up Pen y Ghent. I will always think of it as a wet and windy fell!. the mission was to see if there was a better way to Ribblehead than through all the bog. In fact they have built a new path that cuts straight down to the Pennine Way path and while not interesting walking we were not up to our knees in bog! It took us 4 1/2 hours back to the bike which was a bit slow but we were a bit weary after the week in the Lakes so not too bad. roger gave me a backy to the station Inn where i waited for him to return with the car. Not a friendly place! It got a bit wet towards the end.

A three Scramble day in Coniston

October 1, 2013

The Bell 335m   Brim Fell 796m   Coniston Old Man 803m

It was a much duller day today but the forecast said no rain so we hopefully headed out to Coniston and after a coffee in the village we set off up the Walna Scar Road to park. We have done all the Scrambles that we did today many times before with Joe and Kai, and Nick but as it has been all this week we had forgotten how good they are. I guess that my legs are getting a bit tired we have had a good week of Mountain days after not doing much all summer but we plan a rest tomorrow.

We Scrambled up The Bell grade 1* then on to Low water Beck grade 3** and Brim Fell grade2**

we went up to the summit of Brim Fell and then on to Coniston Old Man. It was a little blowy on top and then we headed down by the old mine workings.

a great day.

Sourmilk Gill and Gillercombe Buttress

September 28, 2013

A fantastic day with Joe – we really had forgotten how much fun scrambling is. We went up Sourmilk Gill Grade 2** and then reached Gillercombe Buttress by way of Seathwaite Upper Slabs. A fine Scramble up Gillercombe Crag – North East buttress. Grade 3***

we went on to the top of Grey Knotts 697m and then made our way down. Drove back to kendal and met up with Kai and Blair for a chippy tea.

What a good day. A fine day in Yewdale

September 27, 2013

Holme Fell via raven Crag and Pussie’s Paradise

A beautiful sunny day, we headed to Coniston first for a coffee and bit of something, then went back down the road to Raven Crag, a fine scramble last done in 1995 with Joe and Kai on dog leads. Lovely rock and my ankle still holding up. Tarn Crag

We came down to Kendal to stay with Joe while Roger did his ski course and I did my speed course! and then we will have a few days to play in  the Lakes and spend some time with Joe and Kai. I hope to really start to build up my mountain legs after my accident and a busy wedding season. So our first day out we headed up to Langdale to tackle a scramble or two. We went out Mill ghyll grade 1 and then the Groove on Tarn Crag which is Grade 3. Trip up Cairngorm

August 27, 2013

Cairn Gorm 1244m

IMG_0563-EditLooking across to Stob Coire an t-Sneachda and Cairn Lochan

Still testing the newly mended ankle so this trip up Cairn Gorm has been a bit of a target for a while. We parked at the lowers ski car park and got seriously midges and I had forgotten my insoles for my boots so we high tailed it back  home to pick up midge repellent and my insoles! We set of up the ridge at the side of  Coire na Ciste. Strange looking down on the ski tows in the summer. As we approached the top of the ridge we saw some deer and we were surprised when they didn’t run away but walked towards us – they were reindeer and very tame! we arrived at Cnap Coire na Spreidhe in the mist ( or so we thought) and took a bearing to take us to the top of Cairn Gorm but as we walked it felt wrong but we stuck to the bearing and came across the top of the ski tow. We had dropped down too far and this was because we were not actually at the top of Cnap Coire na Spreidhe but a cairn just below it ….interesting. We continued on to the summit of Cairngorm and then retraced our steps but returned down  Strona Cha no looking down into Strath Nethy and getting a bit wet in the rain! We set from Aviemore on our bikes with panniers on which contained a picnic and our swimmies. We went via Loch an Eilein through the forest to the wooden bridge up Glen Feshie. A lovely swim and back down the other side of the river and through the wood and along the road but a bit of a detour via the Lilly Loch. Great dayIMG_0486IMG_0487IMG_0488IMG_0495IMG_0497
